Bale Mountains Safari & Ethiopian Wolf Expedition 4 Days
Overview
Ascend into one of Africa’s most breathtaking and ecologically vital wilderness sanctuaries: Bale Mountains National Park, officially inscribed as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in September 2023. Spanning an astonishing elevation range from 1,500m to over 4,377m at Tullu Dimtu (Ethiopia’s second-highest peak), Bale encompasses the largest expanse of continuous Afro-alpine habitat on the African continent.
This 4-day high-altitude safari is the definitive expedition to observe the world’s rarest and most endangered canid: the Ethiopian Wolf (Canis simensis), with fewer than 500 individuals remaining on earth, over half of which roam Bale’s Sanetti Plateau.
Explore the eerie, otherworldly plateau dotted with prehistoric Giant Lobelias (Lobelia rynchopetalum), traverse the moss-draped cloud forest of Harenna—home to wild forest lions, leopards, and colobus monkeys—and walk among majestic Mountain Nyala and Menelik’s Bushbuck in the lush Gaysay grasslands.
Trip Highlights
- The Rare Ethiopian Wolf: Track the world's most endangered canid across the Sanetti Plateau as it hunts the giant mole-rat in its Afro-alpine stronghold.
