Harar, the walled city of narrow lanes, mosques and markets, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its hyena men. Nearby Dire Dawa grew up around the Addis Ababa to Djibouti railway, and the Babile Elephant Sanctuary lies east of Harar.
