Venture into Ethiopia’s most pristine, untouched, and biodiverse wilderness: Chebera-Churchura National Park. Gazetted in 2005 and situated in the southwestern corner of the country within the Konta and Dawro zones, this 1,215-square-kilometer sanctuary is celebrated as the premier stronghold of the African Elephant in Ethiopia, boasting a thriving population of over 500 forest and savannah elephants.

Unlike crowded East African safari circuits, Chebera-Churchura offers complete, unadulterated exclusivity. Here, emerald rolling hills and primary montane rainforest drop into dense riverine valleys fed by the Zigina and Shoshuma rivers.

Track wild elephant herds through tall savanna grass with armed wildlife rangers, hike to roaring waterfalls and natural subterranean thermal hot springs, and boat or walk along pristine crater lakes (Keriballa and Bahra) teeming with hippos, African buffalo, leopards, and over 260 bird species.

Trip Highlights

  • Tracking Wild African Elephants: Walk with expert park rangers to encounter Ethiopia's largest and most secure elephant population in its natural forest habitat.
